Monthly Musings - June 2025

June 14, 2025

In response to being asked about how to go deeper with one’s practice with children, we offer these monthly musings as invitations for you. You might take the invitation up

  • as an individual or with your team.
  • at monthly staff meetings.
  • to provoke conversations when feeling stuck.

The opportunities are endless.

We will pose these musings monthly but use them as you feel moved to. You might spend more than a month with one question. Or you might revisit a question at a later time. Each time you visit or revisit a question, new possibilities emerge.

Responsive environment

The organization of time is more art than science. Educators are encouraged to find the flow and flexibility that enhances each child’s day.”

Flight, p.64

By noticing children's play and marvelling at their accomplishments, you discover their needs and interests. You engage in a responsive and reflective process that allows you to build a positive image of the child as a mighty learner and citizen.

For children to explore, create, and learn, they need time and flexible routines that encourage them to engage with others and their environment.

In what ways do you offer children the time to play with ideas, create and innovate with materials, and spaces to collaborate with others?

What role do you play alongside children in decision-making when organizing routines and transitions?
